Hexing > Fur Files
Alrighty! I'm doing this tutorial based on my version using Paint Shop Pro 6 (PSP). If you have another program you can probally figure out how to do some of the same things. But I'm telling how I personally do it. You also need to have Hex Workshop. Which you can search for at Download.com or softseek.com. I have Hex Workshop 3.10
.
First...
BACK UP YOUR FILES!
Now we can begin..
1. Open PSP.
*You can use any picture you want.. however some look really terrible.. you want something that has a pattern to it (unless you like wierd)*
Here are some samples I made that you may use

I don't remember if these were ugly or what! but you can experiment.
Now for practice I made these GIFs! They need to change into BMPs.
Changing GIFs and JPGs to BMP's
- Open redrum.gif in PSP (the orangish picture file to the left)
Then..
Go to colors, decrease color depth then 256 colors (8 bit)
The following will pop up and select it as you see it..
Press OK
Now you need to save that image here:
Click Save As
Go to this location:
C:\program files\PF.magic\petz3\Resource\Dogz\
Now you need to save it As a BMP!
Scroll down in the "Save as type" and find:
Windows or OS/2 Bitmap(*.bmp)
So in the file name it should now say redrum.bmp
CLICK SAVE!
ON TO PART 2!
NOW OPEN Hex Workshop
Open the Great Dane Breed file
Go up to Edit and down to Find and a Box will appear.
Enter the following and press OK
Ballz info is highlighted..
SCROLL UP TILL YOU SEE THIS (Bellow):
All the important things are circled!
Where it says art\textures\hair6.bmp change that to
resource\dogz\redrum.bmp
And again where it says: art\textures\hair10.bmp change that also to:
resource\dogz\redrum.bmp
*your choice*
Where it says: art\textures\jowl1.bmp
this is the face... if you leave it alone you still get a black or brown mask
Or you can also replace it with this:which will cover the whole face with the pattern
resource\dogz\redrum.bmp
VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL
See All those 1's circles ??
If you change the origional file you need to replace the 1's with ZERO.
If you do not change the face, leave it as a 1
Here's what I've done..
I've left the face alone.
Once yours looks like this click SAVE
It asks if you want to make a back up.. it doesnt matter.. i usually do not.
Open your Petz Program!
Go to the adoption Center and take out a great dane
It should look like this one!
